RTC inmate death

June 22, 2026 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Christopher Butler #86013, age 67, died today at the Reception and Treatment Center. 

Butler’s sentence began on June 27, 2017. He was serving a 45-to-50-year sentence out of Douglas County for first degree sexual assault of a child.   

While the cause of death has not yet been determined, Butler was being treated for a medical condition. As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS), a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
