RTC inmate death

January 2, 2026 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Vern Krimmel #34989, age 63, died yesterday at the Reception and Treatment Center (RTC).  

Krimmel’s sentence began on April 21, 1983. Krimmel was serving a life sentence out of Douglas County for first degree murder. 

While the cause of death has not yet been determined, Krimmel was being treated for a medical condition. As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS), a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
