RTC inmate death

October 8, 2025 (Lincoln, Neb.) – James Alfrey #213517, age 69, died today at the Reception and Treatment Center.

Alfrey's sentence began on July 20, 2021. He was serving eight to 10 years for third degree sexual assault of a child out of Nuckolls County.

While the cause of death has not yet been determined, Alfrey was being treated for a medical condition. As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS), a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
