Recently, NDCS had the privilege of celebrating the second cohort of twelve individuals who completed one year of compassionate service to the Hospice Care Volunteer program.
This program was introduced in 2024 at the Reception and Treatment Center (RTC) where peers serve as volunteers in the clinic, building a community of compassion to ensure no one faces their final moments alone. Their dedication and empathy continue to make a lasting impact on patients, families, staff, and each other.
It was also an honor to welcome Marilee Malcom, executive director of the Nebraska Hospice and Palliative Care Association, who presented each volunteer with an award in recognition of their remarkable contributions to the program and to hospice efforts in our community.
Their work is a powerful reminder that compassion has the ability to positively impact not only those who receive it but also those who choose to give it.
