Deputy Director - Prison Operations
Robert Madsen was appointed deputy director - prisons in June 2018. In this role, he oversees the wardens of NDCS facilities. He uses the team concept for identifying new approaches to challenges and implementing solutions to fulfill the agency’s mission: Keep people safe.
Madsen started his career as a corrections officer with NDCS more than three decades ago, and has filled a number of roles since then including: unit manager, unit administrator, assistant warden, deputy warden and warden. He attributes his success in correctional services to the guidance and support of the many outstanding individuals with whom he has had the privilege to work.
Madsen earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Wayne State College in Nebraska.
