Today is all about celebrating our four-legged friends! We're celebrating by highlighting the incredible partnerships NDCS offers that unite both shelter dogs and incarcerated individuals and give them a second chance.
Second Chance Pups at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) and Domestic-Pups at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI), the Reception and Treatment Center (RTC) and the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) are programs in which incarcerated individuals are paired with dogs from local shelters and rescues. Here, dogs that need rehoming are carefully matched with individuals who are committed to training and caring for them.
By training these dogs, the individuals gain skills that are pivotal to their own rehabilitation and successful reentry into their communities. The programs not only change the lives of these incredible animals but also provide a meaningful path forward for the individuals who train them.
