When an individual is first received by the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services at an intake facility, there is a period of time for reception, orientation and initial classification. This time includes a variety of medical, psychological and educational assessments, as well as orientation to the agency's procedures and resources.
During this time, individuals are housed in separate units from the general population. All individuals are initially considered maximum custody pending initial classification.
