As the NDCS chief inspector, Geoff Britton is responsible for managing constituent services, to include inmate grievances and disciplinary appeals, monitoring internal investigations, and inspecting/auditing agency policy and processes to ensure adherence to best practices. 

Geoff began his career with the NDCS in 2000, holding the positions of unit caseworker, sergeant, training instructor and criminal investigator. Between 2013 and 2018, Geoff returned to his home state of California to serve as an investigations supervisor and workplace violence prevention administrator in a hospital system and as a uniformed police officer.  In 2018, Geoff was appointed to the role of chief for the state of California. His team was responsible for police oversight, internal affairs investigations, monitoring employee misconduct investigations, and conducted criminal and administrative investigations in two other departments until his return to Nebraska in 2024. 

Geoff holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Youngstown State University and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  Geoff has served as a consultant for the United States Department of Justice - National Institute of Corrections and holds multiple certifications in law enforcement, investigations, and corrections.
