February 19, 2023 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Johnny Hernandez #52822, age 75, died on February 17, 2023, just after 5 p.m. at the Reception and Treatment Center (RTC), where he was incarcerated.

Mr. Hernandez’ sentence began on August 20, 1999. He was serving a 25 to 50 year sentence on charges of sexual assault, first degree, out of Madison County.

While the cause of death has not yet been determined, Mr. Hernandez was being treated for a medical condition. As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS), a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
