Teamwork, creativity, and a dash of competitive spirit filled the air as the Omaha Correctional Center food service department hosted its first bake off for incarcerated individuals working in the kitchen.

The bake off was not just a chance to showcase their culinary skills, but also an opportunity to build camaraderie and boost morale. Each team of incarcerated individual kitchen workers were tasked with creating a dessert that would impress the judges.

This competition involved months of planning through a collective effort between food service staff and lead kitchen workers. The bake off concluded with a small celebration, where all participants were recognized for their hard work and awarded certificates to the recent graduates of the ServSafe program.

The winning dessert: Apple Pie Bars, baked by team ‘Awesomesauce,’ and will be featured on the future holiday menu.
