Mental Health Awareness Month
Mental Health Awareness Month
The month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month. While millions of Americans live with a mental illness, NDCS provides many clinical treatment programs focused on mental health to the incarcerated population.
Approximately 19% of adults in the U.S. suffer from an anxiety disorder. NDCS offers the Anxiety Reduction/Coping with Anxiety programs, which teach anxiety reduction behaviors and increase the ability to function with anxiety.
Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. NDCS provides Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, which is a program to help suicidal and self-harm behaviors.
The START Now program re-enforces personal responsibility for behavior, teaching about the connections between thoughts, feelings and behavior.
Those are just a few of the clinical treatment programs that are focused on mental health for rehabilitation at NDCS. For more information on all NDCS clinical treatment programs, visit our website: https://corrections.nebraska.gov/about/rehabilitation/clinical-treatment
