September 6, 2017 (Lincoln, Neb.) –An inmate assaulted three staff members at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) at approximately2:15 a.m. on September 5, 2017.

The staff members were responding to a medical emergency, having observed the inmate agitated and blood in the cell. August 23, 2017 (Tecumseh, Neb.) – Ronald Fort (57), inmate #31572, died at 10:18 pm on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at the Johnson County Hospital. Fort was assigned to the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution and was serving a combined sentence of 31 years 8 months to Life for charges in Douglas County. Fort was convicted of second degree murder in 1978, possession of a firearm by a fugitive/felon in 1990 (while on parole), and manslaughter in 1992 (while on parole)....Read more

August 15, 2017 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Lucius Turner, #67562, (35) died Monday, August 14, 2017, at approximately 4:02 p.m. at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Mr. Turner collapsed while playing basketball. The incident was observed by staff and there is no reason to suspect foul play. Staff members immediately began administering CPR and called 911 EMS.

July 31, 2017 (Tecumseh, Neb.) –Today, an inmate at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution assaulted a staff member. The assault, which occurred in the dining hall, included the inmate punching the staff member in the face multiple times. The staff member fell to the ground, at which time the inmate kicked the staff member in the face. When additional staff arrived to intervene, the inmate ran away from the area and was quickly restrained by other staff members.

July 31, 2017 (Tecumseh, Neb.) – Lewis Bade (82), inmate #50738, died at 3:45 am on Friday, July 28, 2017, in the skilled nursing facility at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution. Bade was serving 56 years 8 months to 100 years for 4 counts of first degree sexual assault, 2 counts of first degree sexual assault on a child, and 1 count visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct from Madison and Stanton counties.
