November 9, 2017 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Today, Nebraska Department of Correctional Services Director Scott R. Frakes provided Jose Sandoval, #59147, notice of the substances to be employed in Sandoval’s execution by lethal injection.

No date has been set for the execution. The Nebraska Administrative Code (NAC) Title 69, Chapter 11, requires the director to provide notice to the condemned inmate at least 60 days prior to the Attorney General’s request to the Nebraska...Read more

November 9, 2017 (LINCOLN) – Today, Director Scott R. Frakes announced the appointment of Taggart Boyd to serve as warden of the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center/Lincoln Correctional Center (DEC/LCC). Boyd will join the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) on December 29, 2017.

Boyd currently serves as the deputy warden of operations at the privately operated North Central Correctional Complex, a minimum-medium security men’s prison in Marion, Ohio....Read more

November 6, 2017 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Team members at the Nebraska State Penitentiary thwarted an attempt by a staff member to bring in contraband on Saturday, November 4, 2017.

Michael Miller (24) was arrested on Saturday and lodged in the Lancaster County Jail with charges of Bribery and Unauthorized Communication with an Inmate . Director Scott R. Frakes has submitted the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services’ mid-biennium budget adjustment. The requests relate to the provision of medical services at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) and the positions identified in the custody staffing analysis. The first request will allow the agency to utilize funding previously allocated to the contract medical services at TSCI. The contract with a medical provider terminated in July 2017....Read more

October 23, 2017 (Lincoln, Neb.) – The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) regularly partners with the Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) to host career fairs and recruit quality talent to the agency’s team.

NDCS has collaborated with NDOL on 10 career fairs since January, with two more scheduled in the near future. The next fairs, which are free to any and all job seeker, will be held Oct. 24 in Seward and Nov. 1 in Nebraska City.

October 21, 2017 (Tecumseh, Neb.) – Today, at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI), Richard Fries (53) and Ryan Tokar (31) were arrested on contraband-related charges.

Fries has been employed as a corporal at TSCI since 1/17/17. Tokar has been employed as a corporal at TSCI since 11/28/16. Both are lodged in the Johnson County Jail.

Due to the active investigation, no additional information is available at this time.
