Deputy Director for Programs


Michael Rothwell was appointed deputy director for Programs in August of 2015. His primary responsibilities include overseeing the management of two work release facilities, one community corrections facility, non-clinical programs, classification and transportation.

Previously, Rothwell served as the deputy chief of team for the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Centers, warden of the Sheridan Correctional Center in Illinois, deputy administrator of the Division of Programs for the Idaho Department of Corrections and the eastern regional manager with the North Carolina Department of Correction, Division of Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency Programs.

"Programming is all about reducing recidivism and getting people back into the community," Rothwell said. "My goal is to continue producing programs that will keep offenders from returning to our institutions."

In addition to working in the criminal justice field, Rothwell has also served as an adjunct faculty member at a number of universities throughout Tennessee, Texas and North Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services from the University of Tennessee, and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.
