This section is responsible for addressing the safety portion of DCS goal #1, "To provide a secure and safe environment for both staff and inmates to realize individual potential."
The safety and sanitation functions are accomplished through inspections of all facilities on a periodic basis. The inspections are used to identify and assist in the correction of safety hazards and sanitation needs.

The Safety Coordinator conducts semi-annual safety training for employees, is a regular member of the DCS internal auditing team and in addition has responsibility for the Department's asbestos abatement program and environmental monitoring program.
