Q. How do I know if my application was received?

A. With an online application, you will receive confirmation via email. Each applicant must have their own, unique email account.


Q. How long does my application remain on file?

A. Your application remains in your online account until you decide to edit or delete it. You may create more than one application within your account. You do not need to create a new application every time you apply for a position.


Q. How can I update my application currently on file?

A. If you want to update your contact information, or add new employment or education/training information, you may log in to your account and edit the selected application.


Q. I am a former employee, what do I need to do to get hired again?

Any former employees seeking re-employment within the Department must first go through a Rehire Review Committee. Please contact, Human Resources at 1-855-WRK-4DCS (1-855-975-4327) for further details.


Q: I do not have any previous correctional officer experience. Am I still able to apply for a position?

Yes. Correctional Officer applicants must take and pass the Correctional Officer screening test which includes testing for reading, general math and report writing skills. Upon first day of hire, the new employee must successfully complete the five-week Nebraska Corrections Training Program. This fully paid program offered through the Staff Training Academy includes classes in CPR, First Aid, firearms, self-defense and others.


Q. Do I get paid to attend the Staff Training Academy?

A. Yes. Once attending the Corrections Staff Training Academy, you are considered an employee and would be in a paid status.


Q. How old do I have to be to be a Correctional Officer?

A. An applicant must be at least 18 years of age.


Q. Are males allowed to work in a female facility and females in a male facility?

A. Yes, the Department of Corrections is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
